L'arc de Triomphe seen ElyséesL'arc Champs de Triomphe known throughout the world the Arc de Triomphe, is located in Paris at the Place de l'Etoile, at the west end of the Avenue des Champs-Elysees, 2.2 km from the Place de la Concorde. Top 50 meters and a width of 45 meters, managed by the National Monuments [1].
Instead of the Star form a huge roundabout twelve avenues breakthroughs in the nineteenth century under the leadership of Baron Haussmann, then prefect of the department of Seine. These avenues "shine" star around the place, including the Avenue de la Grande Armée, Avenue de Wagram and, of course, the Avenue des Champs-Elysees. Paving stones of different colors draw on the floor instead of two stars whose peaks reach for one in the middle of avenues, for among other avenues.
History
Napoleon ordered the construction of the arc in 1806: his original plan was to be the starting point for a triumphal avenue crossing including the Louvre and Place de la Bastille.
Chalgrin The architect in charge of the project was inspired by antiquity. The foundations demanded two years of construction.
During the first defeat of Napoleon (Campaign Russia in 1812), construction was stopped, then abandoned under the Restoration, before being finally resumed and completed between 1832 and 1836, under Louis-Philippe Ier. The architects Robert Louis-Goust Huyot then took over in the direction of Héricart Thury.
The Arc de Triomphe was inaugurated on 29 July 1836 for the sixth anniversary of the Three Glorious. Initially had been planned a large military presence journal of Louis-Philippe. But while it has been targeted by a new attack on June 25, the Council President, Adolphe Thiers, convinced the king to abstain. The military review is canceled and replaced by a grand banquet hosted by King to 300 guests, while the monument was inaugurated by secretly Thiers, seven o'clock in the morning.
